Vildan Seçkiner studied City and Regional Planning and Urban Design at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara where she also completed her masters thesis titled ‘Cinematic Representation of Gecekondu as an Urban Memory’ in 2009. Since then she has been interested in several research topics such as urban gentrification, urban aesthetics, involuntary homelessness, and anthropology of image production. Her occupational experiences varied from sworn translation, assistantship to a wine production consultant and interpreting degustation, to assistant specialist of culture and tourism in The Ministry of Culture. She worked as a project assistant in the DFG research project titled “Changing Imaginations of Istanbul. From Oriental to the Cool City”. Seçkiner completed her doctoral studies as part of this Project with her dissertation titled “The imaginations of streets in the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture (ECoC) Event: Inclusion and Cultural Diversity in the Production of Urban Space.” in 2019.
